1,200 sued over killing of constable Sumon

Police filed a case on Friday night with Labanch-hara Police Station against 1,200 people on charge of killing constable Sumon Gharami.
Mostafa Saklain, sub-inspector of the police station, filed the case. No one was arrested yet to this end, said Momtazul Haque, officer-in-charge of Labanchhara Police Station, yesterday.
On Friday, a large number of people under the banner of “Anti-Discrimination Student Movement” involved in a fierce clash with police in different areas of the city.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mozammel Haque said constable Suman Gharami died after agitators beat him up. Police members found him with a serious head injury in Gallamari in the evening.
They rushed him to the nearby Khulna City Medical College Hospital, police said.
The hospital authorities said Suman was pronounced dead after he was brought there.
His body was handed over to his family members yesterday after an autopsy, said police.
